THE FALLOW GROUND

A space for reflection — exploring faith, grief, inner strength, and personal renewal through honest writing and creative expression.

Get a Positive Grip

Why is it so easy to be negative?

The ability to casually drift into a downward spiral of “woe is me or woe are us”, is incredibly simple. Is this the case for most? Or am I in the minority?

True strength, real power, is in the decision and the ability to lean away from the downdraft. The endless pull of hate, hurt, and the quiet belief that things always go wrong is everywhere, constant and almost unbearably heavy. But strength is in the pause. A half-cleansing breath. A strained neck lifting against the current. Reaching again and again, for the smallest shred of something better waving around overhead just close enough to get a few fingers on.

This is all I’m holding onto.

In my world, in my mind, my grip is getting stronger. My fingers, once slipping, are building dexterity, strengthening with purpose. Like the old strongmen who could tear phone books in half or bend steel frying pans with their bare hands, I’m building something in the storm of this life, something immovable.

Let go of what pulls you down, get a better grip on what is reaching out to you.
